Donations & sponsorship
Every gift keeps the Sadhya on the table and the music on the stage. Here is how giving works, what is tax-deductible, and the receipts we provide.

Give with confidence
We are a nonprofit run by volunteers. When you give, we tell you plainly what — if anything — you received in return, so you know what you can claim.
Who we are
SCV SaRiGaMa is a California nonprofit community association recognised as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our federal tax identification number (EIN) and California charity registration number are available on request at scvsarigama@gmail.com.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
A gift to SaRiGaMa may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. If you give money and receive nothing of value in return — a pure donation — the full amount is generally deductible.
If you receive something in return — event admission, a Sadhya meal, or a sponsor listing — the rules are different, and we explain them next.
When you receive something in return
Buying a ticket or a sponsorship is partly a contribution and partly a payment for what you receive. Only the amount you pay above the fair value of what you receive can be treated as a deductible gift. For example, if a ticket costs more than the value of the meal and admission it includes, only that difference is a donation.
When a payment over $75 is partly a gift and partly for goods or services, the IRS asks us to give you a written statement with a good-faith estimate of the value of what you received, and a note that only the amount above that value may be deductible. We provide that statement with your receipt.
Receipts and acknowledgments
You will receive an emailed receipt for every payment. For a gift of $250 or more, the IRS requires a written acknowledgment before you claim it; we provide one that states the amount, the date, and whether you received any goods or services in return (and, if so, a good-faith estimate of their value).
Please keep the receipt we send — it is the record you would rely on at tax time.
Sponsorship
A contribution of $200 or more earns your business a listing on our pages and a mention at our events. A public listing and acknowledgment has some value, so the deductible portion of a sponsorship may be less than the full amount, and how you may treat it as a business expense depends on your own situation.
We will send you an acknowledgment describing what you received. If you would prefer we not list your business, just tell us and we will honour that.
This is not tax advice
This page explains how we handle gifts; it is general information, not tax or legal advice, and everyone’s situation is different. For what you can actually claim, please check with your own tax adviser.
